Khair wood is a hard, durable wood from the Acacia catechu tree, native to India and Southeast Asia. Its heartwood is red and dense, while the sapwood is yellowish and more vulnerable to insects. The wood is valued for making tools like rice pestles, sugarcane rollers, and ploughs, and is also used for quality charcoal and spiritual rituals. Additionally, the tree is a source of "katha" (catechu) extract used in medicine and chewing tobacco, and its bark has uses in tanning.
